Meet Emmanuel

Emmanuel Amanfor California State Assembly

Hello Neighbor!

My name is Emmanuel, and I am running for State Assembly because I believe in the power of dedicated public service and the transformative impact it can have on our community.

Let me share a little bit about who I am. My personal journey as an immigrant who came to America at a young age and overcame poverty to achieve academic success has shaped my perspective and fuels my drive to advocate for the rights and opportunities of all Californians. I have experienced homelessness and come from a low-income community, giving me firsthand insight into the challenges faced by many in our city.

As a husband to my high school sweetheart and father of four sons ages 1 to 15, I understand the importance of homeownership, family security, and the American Dream. My experience as a homeowner has taught me the value of stability and security, and I am committed to ensuring that every resident of Sacramento has the opportunity to achieve their own piece of the American Dream.

Throughout my career, I have been driven by a strong sense of duty and a commitment to social justice. With a diverse leadership background in the private, municipal, and state sectors, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and needs of our communities.

In my current role at the Division of Rehabilitative Programs (CDCR), I oversee reentry support programs, driving change and fostering reintegration for those striving to become upstanding community members.

One of my proudest achievements was my involvement in advocating for equitable opportunities and social mobility through AB1604, the Upward Mobility Act of 2022. Additionally, providing support to the $4 Billion initiative to reimagine the ecosystem of behavior and mental health for children and youth statewide.

With a solid educational foundation in sociology and public health, I possess a deep understanding of the underlying social and health disparities that impact our communities. My dedication to advocating for housing, education, economic opportunity, and social justice stems from the belief that these factors are essential for individuals to reach their full potential and live the American Dream.

As a Sacramento Housing Commissioner, I have collaborated with city and county leaders on securing housing for our unhoused and low-income residents. From the Sacramento Emergency Rental Assistance (SERA) program to Section 8 funding and Homekey projects, I am committed to ensuring housing stability for all Sacramento residents.

My service on the City of Sacramento Personnel Board reflects my dedication to promoting fairness and equity within city government. Presiding over grievances and cases involving officer misconduct and disciplinary actions, I strive to uphold integrity and accountability.

With my extensive experience, compassionate leadership, and commitment to social justice, I am dedicated to creating a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together, let us build a brighter future for Sacramento.

With love and support

Emmanuel Amanfor
